Pezeshkian Inaugurated

  • On Tuesday, Pezeshkian was inaugurated as the Islamic Republic's new president.

  • During the ceremony inaugurating the "reformist" president, the crowd once again burst into "death to America" chants.

Shervin Hajipour Summoned to Prison

  • On the same day that a "reformist" was being inaugurated, Shervin Hajipour announced that he had been summoned to prison in Iran to serve a 4-year sentence for his Grammy-winning song "Baraye" on charges of "propaganda against the Islamic Republic" and "instigating the public to protest."

  • "Baraye" became the anthem of the Woman, Life, Freedom movement, and won a Grammy in 2023 for Best Song for Social Change.

  • Shervin will be serving his sentence during Pezeshkian's presidency, during which he was supposed to "reform" the Islamic Republic, for a song that gave millions of Iranians hope and strength to continue their fight for freedom, for Iran.
