NUFDI Statement on Rising Tensions in the Middle East

Washington, DC— Rising tensions in the Middle East have once again resulted in the renewal of the unfortunate, unnecessary, and uninformed dichotomy between war with and appeasement of the Islamic regime in Iran. As the leading Iranian-American organization advocating a U.S. policy towards Iran based on human rights and democracy, we are disturbed by the consistent failures of politicians on both sides of the aisle to understand and pursue the only true path to peace in the Middle East: the freedom-seeking people of Iran. As opposed to wasting time on negotiations and sending billions of dollars in cash payments to the Ayatollah or wasting energy on authorizations for military force and spending billions on bombs it is time to devote our efforts and resources to supporting the people of Iran. Only one solution remains: supporting the people of Iran in their national movement for liberation. As they fight to reclaim their country from the radical terrorists that have held it hostage for more than four decades, they see America as their allies. In response to the regime’s chants of “Death to America” they refuse to desecrate the American flag and chant in response “Our enemy is right here. You lie when you say it’s America.” The peace the region once enjoyed and the security America once had can only be achieved again when the Islamic Republic is gone. No other solution exists.
