Two Minutes in Tehran is a weekly series dedicated to briefing you on the latest news on Iran


1. Australia Sanctions Islamic Republic Officials

  • On Tuesday, it was announced that Australia would be placing sanctions on five regime officials and three entities, citing the regime’s “destabilizing behavior” in the Middle East
  • Iran’s Defense Minister Mohammad Reza Ashtiani and Quds Force commander Esmail Qaani are among the individuals sanctioned, along with businesspeople and companies involved in enhancing Iran’s missile program
  • In their statement, Australia’s Foreign Ministry referred to the IRCG as a “malignant actor” that threatens international security and Iranian citizens

 

2. Regime Continues Violent Hijab Crackdown

  • In the last few days, multiple videos have gone viral of regime officials terrorizing Iranians in relation to non-compliance with hijab laws, as Khamenei’s violent crackdown on women continues
  • Videos showed women being violently beaten and arrested for refusing to comply with hijab laws, and even beating and arresting a motorcyclist because of his wife’s hijab

 

3. $600 Million Set Aside for IR Propaganda Activities

  •  While Iranians suffer economically under the regime, Khamenei’s government has allocated $600 million just for propaganda activities, which is a large part of Iran’s annual budget and is usually paid out in part by printing money — resulting in a more than 50% annual inflation rate which has caused tens of millions of Iranians to suffer over the years
